GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
This Assistant Director is responsible for a subset of site management activities of Partners Department of Biomedical Engineering at a hospital and selected affiliated organizations. The individual assists the Site Director in coordinating and managing activities of biomedical engineering personnel within the department and in running departmental operations. Under general direction of the Site Director, the Assistant Director develops and implements projects involving clinical technologies including, acquisition, oversight of installations, and budget negotiation and monitoring. The role may be structured to include specific responsibilities that would be outlined in an attached Position Description.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Manages day-to-day Biomedical Engineering activities of hospital and affiliated healthcare facilities. Will have some overall responsibilities to manage some department services, e.g., medical devices servicing, project engineering. This may include direct management of some team leaders and some or all clinical engineers.
2. Directs management of some clinical engineering projects: e.g. clinical device and system implementation including evaluation, contract development, receipt, installation and training.
3. Implements device-related incident follow-up investigation and reporting.
4. Assists Site Director in fulfilling department compliance with regulatory requirements, especially those of JCAHO and DPH and in providing leadership and oversight for regulatory compliance of other departments responsible for clinical equipment. Assists in development of policies and procedures relating to the use of medical devices and may lead effort for Partners entities.
5. Assists in developing and managing device and technology training programs.
6. Assists in maintaining liaison between hospital clinical engineering groups.
7. Chairs some hospital and department meetings and assists Site Director to maintain appropriate interdepartmental communication.
8. Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. MS or equivalent experience in Biomedical, Electrical or related engineering discipline.
2. Minimum 5 years of hospital experience or equivalent industry experience with demonstrated ability to adapt to hospital environment.
3. Previous personnel management experience.

4. Effective diplomatic skills
5. Computer literacy and understanding of basic principles of architecture and networking
6. Strong human resources skills for recruiting and retaining technical staff

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Supervises other managers/supervisors and some direct reports.
